Engine Overview and Common Failures

Compared to turbocharged counterparts, this engine is considered quite reliable. Ignition coils are not often used here, the throttle and EGR valve often get dirty. Hydraulic compensators knock due to clogged oil receiver and oil pump wear. If you miss replacing any of the two timing belts, a valve will bend in case of rupture. In the first years of production, the exhaust manifold was frequently replaced under warranty.
