Engine Overview and Common Failures

The weight of the BME engine according to the catalog is 85 kg. The BME engine number is located at the junction of the block and the gearbox. The weak point of the engine is the short-lived timing chain with a lifespan of 50,000 km. Due to a faulty hydraulic tensioner, the chain can jump after parking in gear. Fluctuating rpm is often caused by throttle and crankcase ventilation contamination. The fuel injectors and ignition coils have a rather modest lifespan. On high mileage, compression often drops due to valve burning.
