Engine Overview and Common Failures

The most famous problem is the rapid wear of camshaft lobes and rockers. In second place are failures in the operation of the electronically controlled Bosch VP44 fuel injection pump. The crankcase ventilation filter quickly becomes clogged and requires constant cleaning. The outdated film-type PCV valve is not very reliable in the engine. The engine is prone to oil leaks at the block-to-oil pan joints and from the valve cover.
