Engine Overview and Common Failures

Owners often complain about the rapid wear of the camshaft lobes and rocker arms. Following in popularity are problems with the electronically-controlled Bosch VP44 fuel injection pump. The throttle valve pump, which pumps fuel from the tank, also shows low reliability. Oil often leaks from the valve cover and at the joints between the engine block and the oil pan or cylinder head. Weak points also include the pressure relief valves and the viscous fan clutch bearing.
