Engine Overview and Common Failures

Defective inserts were found on these diesel engines of certain years of production. Cheap oil contributes to the wear of hydraulic compensators and cam lobes. Over time, the pump-injectors secured by only one bolt can start leaking. The culprit of engine power losses is usually a stuck turbine geometry. Another weak point of this engine, according to service technicians, is the tandem pump.
