Engine Overview and Common Failures

On forums, people often complain about the low power of this diesel engine rather than issues. The main breakdowns are related to the temperamental fuel pump, it is reliable but often malfunctions with age. Over time, the injectors start to leak, however, only the nozzles can be replaced. Oil leaks are not uncommon, weak points being the heat exchanger and valve cover. After 250,000 km, piston rings may start to wear out and oil consumption increases.
