Engine Overview and Common Failures

The main problems of this diesel engine are related to the injection pump or injectors. The aluminum cylinder head is sensitive to overheating, so you should ensure the integrity of the cooling system. Every 100,000 km, expensive replacement of timing belts and injection pump belts, as well as their rollers, is required. On high-mileage engines, the vacuum pump often makes noise, and the turbocharger starts to consume oil. Older engines also have many electrical problems, especially with the EGR valve.
