Engine Overview and Common Failures

The main problems are leaks from the nozzle seals and tandem pump. Additionally, the aluminum block without liners is very sensitive to low-quality diesel fuel and prone to scoring. Often, there is a leakage in the oil system heat exchanger, causing lubricant to mix with antifreeze. Around 200,000 km of mileage, the rocker arms or camshaft lobes may wear out. This engine has several other weak points, but they are typical for modern diesel engines.
