Engine Overview and Common Failures

Diesels are most afraid of overheating, the aluminum head often cracks. In second place in popularity are leaks from the high-pressure fuel pump. The timing belt is changed every 60,000 km, and if it breaks, it usually requires replacing the cylinder head. Closer to 150-200 thousand km mileage, the engine turbocharger often starts to consume oil. On mileages over 200,000 km, oil consumption is common, as well as lubrication leaks.
