Engine Overview and Common Failures

The weight of the VAZ 21011 engine according to the catalog is 114 kg. The VAZ 21011 engine number is located above the oil filter. Camshaft wear is probably the most well-known problem of classic engines. The cause is cost-cutting on maintenance and ignoring valve adjustment. Engine overheating comes second in terms of prevalence, with frequent overheating of the power unit due to a malfunctioning thermostat, pump, or fan. Their lifespan is quite low. Oil consumption becomes an issue for almost all owners at a mileage of 100,000 km. The culprit is worn piston rings, oil control rings, or a clogged PCV valve. Other problems that can give you a lot of trouble include carburetor quirks, a short-lived timing chain, failures of auxiliary equipment, frequent leaks from seals or under the valve cover.
