Engine Overview and Common Failures

The weight of the VAZ 2112 engine according to the catalog is 127 kg. The VAZ 2112 engine number is located at the junction of the block and the head. Misfire issues with the engine are often caused by ignition module and high-voltage wires. Sometimes it is recommended for owners to also check the compression, as it could be a burnt valve. Fluctuating RPMs at idle are usually caused by a failure of one of the sensors. The most problematic ones are the throttle position sensor, the EGR valve, the crankshaft position sensor, and the throttle body. Overheating of the engine is often caused by low-quality components in the cooling system. It could be a faulty thermostat, a stuck fan, or a deteriorated hose. Loud noises are often caused by hydraulic lifters. However, there can be more complex cases, such as knocking pistons, connecting rod bearings, or main bearings. In such cases, a serious repair is required. A timing belt failure on this engine almost always results in a collision between the pistons and valves, so it is very important to monitor its condition. Alternatively, these pistons can be replaced with non-interference ones.
