Engine Overview and Common Failures

The weight of the VAZ 2130 engine according to the catalog is 122 kg. The engine number for the VAZ 2130 is located above the oil filter. Camshaft wear, like on all classic VAZ engines, is a common problem here. So we recommend not skimping on lubrication and not forgetting to adjust the valve clearances. Another well-known issue is the oil consumption, which increases significantly with mileage. The cause is worn oil rings, gaskets, and a clogged crankcase ventilation system. This engine is also prone to overheating, resulting in blown gaskets, and even cracks in the cylinder head due to thermostat failure, pump malfunction, and electric fan failure. They have a modest lifespan. Other weak points of this power unit include a not very durable timing chain, as well as regular oil leaks from the valve cover and rear crankshaft seal.
