The weight of the N47 engine according to the catalog is 168 kg. The engine number N47 is located at the junction of the block and the gearbox. The most well-known problem of the engine is the stretching of the timing chain at mileage up to 100,000 km. The replacement of the timing chain kit can only be done by removing the engine and it is quite expensive. The swirl flaps in the intake manifold quickly clog with carbon deposits and get stuck. The crankshaft damper has a modest lifespan and may require replacement at 100,000 km. Prolonged overheating of the diesel engine often leads to cracks between the cylinders.

The three-cylinder BMW B37 diesel engine with a displacement of 1.5 liters has been fitted since 2014 and installed in front-wheel drive models as B37C15 and rear-wheel drive models as B37D15. In Mini cars, this diesel engine is known by its own index, B37C15A. Currently, the inline 3 engine line only consists of one family of engines.
The 1.7-liter diesel engine BMW M41 or M41D17 was produced from 1994 to 2000 and installed only in one model: the E36 3 Series, but in all its numerous body versions. This power unit has 86% common parts with the popular 6-cylinder diesel M51. The lineup of four-cylinder engines also includes: M47, N47, and B47.
The 2.4-liter diesel engine BMW M21 or M21D24 was produced from 1983 to 1991 and installed in popular models of the company: 3-Series (E30) and 5-Series (E28 and E34). The 1.6-liter turbocharged engine Ford JQMA or Kuga 2 1.6 EcoBoost was produced from 2012 to 2016 and was only installed in the second generation Kuga crossover models before the facelift. This engine gained some controversy due to problematic cooling issues. The 1.6 EcoBoost engine lineup also includes the JTMA, JQDA, and JTBA engines.
The 1.2-liter Toyota 3NR-FE engine has been produced in Japan since 2011 for B-class models. The engine comes in two versions: with Dual VVT-i system for gas phase shift and without it. The simplified version of the engine without phase control is only available on the Indian market. The NR family includes: 1NR-FE, 2NR-FE, 1NR-VE, 2NR-VE, 1NR-FKE, 2NR-FKE, and 8NR-FTS.
