Engine Overview and Common Failures

While this engine has no weak points found yet, it may still be produced in small quantities. The fuel system does not tolerate left fuel, and repairs can be expensive. Like any modern diesel engine, the EGR valve quickly clogs with soot. The timing belt is recommended to be replaced every 210,000 km, but the pump often fails earlier. Use oil with VW 507.00 approval or the diesel particulate filter won't last long.
