Engine Overview and Common Failures

At the moment, no serious weaknesses have been identified in this diesel engine. Modern fuel systems cannot tolerate poor quality fuel, and repairs can be expensive. Like many other diesel engines, the EGR valve quickly clogs with soot. According to the maintenance schedule, the timing belt should last up to 210,000 kilometers, but the water pump may fail before that. It is recommended to use oils with VW 507.00 specifications, otherwise the diesel particulate filter will not last long.
