Engine Overview and Common Failures

The weight of the BKS engine according to the catalog is 220 kg. The BKS engine number is located at the front, at the junction of the block and the cylinder head. Before reaching 100,000 km, the intake manifold valves may become stuck. The temperamental CR Bosch piezo injectors cause quite a few problems. The timing chain resource ranges from 200,000 to 300,000 km, and its replacement is not cheap. The fuel pump belt lasts no more than 100,000 km, but if it breaks, the car simply stalls. On high mileage, the diesel particulate filter and EGR valve often get completely clogged.
