The 1.6-liter engine with eighteen valves, the Volkswagen 1.6 BFQ, was produced from 2002 to 2010 and was installed in the fourth generation of the Golf model, as well as in Audi and Seat platform vehicles. Engine Overview and Common Failures

The engine number BFQ is located in the front, at the junction of the engine and the gearbox. The engine is reliable and has a high lifespan, but it only becomes a concern at high mileage. The unstable operation is caused by a clogged fuel pump or a crack in the coil. Air suction or stuck intake manifold valves are also common issues. In engines of this series, the exhaust manifold often cracks near cylinder 3-4. After 200,000 km, the piston rings become worn out, the valve caps wear out, and oil consumption increases.
