Ford D3FA engine

1.1-liter Hyundai D3FA or 1.1 CRDi diesel engine was produced from 2005 to 2019 and installed in many compact models of the Korean group, such as i10, i20, Rio, and Picanto. There were two generations of this three-cylinder diesel engine compliant with Euro 4 and Euro 5 emission standards. The Hyundai U series also includes engines with the following indexes: D4FA, D4FB, D4FC, D4FD, and D4FE.

Engine Overview and Common Failures

The weight of the D3FA engine according to the catalog is 210 kg. The engine number D3FA is located at the joint with the front cover. The Bosch VP30 fuel pump does not tolerate impurities in the fuel and over time starts producing shavings. As soon as the contamination reaches the injectors, constant power failures occur. The camshaft bearings are prone to relatively fast wear here. The timing chain mechanism may require attention at mileage of 100-150 thousand km. Strong knocks under the hood usually mean that the upper bushings of the connecting rods have broken.
