Engine Overview and Common Failures

The weight of the 1JZ-GE engine according to the catalog is 210 kg. The engine number 1JZ-GE is located at the junction of the block and the oil pan. This is a very reliable engine without any weak points, and all its problems come from old age. However, on high mileage, it often consumes oil due to worn rings and caps. Low resource of the VVT-i system. After the 1996 update, a VVT-i phase regulator with a low resource appeared here. Symptoms of its failure are fluctuating revs or a crackling sound when starting. Electrical glitches. Unlike its predecessors in the M-series, this engine has many sensors that can often malfunction. You can find a full list of electrical faults here. Minor breakdowns. Minor problems of this power unit include a modest lifespan of the water pump, an unreliable serpentine belt tensioner, and an ignition system that is afraid of water. The engine also tends to flood spark plugs, and the valve clearance needs to be adjusted.
