Engine Overview and Common Failures

According to the catalog, the weight of the G4NB engine is 112 kg. The engine number G4NB is located in front at the junction with the gearbox. The most common complaint about engines in this family is the frequent occurrence of cylinder scoring. In order to achieve quick warm-up, the exhaust manifold is located too close to the engine block, and when particles from the catalytic converter clog it, they begin to be sucked into the combustion chambers. The appearance of high oil consumption does not always indicate cylinder scoring, as the aluminum block with thin-walled cast iron liners can simply wear out, resulting in significant elliptical deformation of the cylinders and increased oil consumption. The timing chain drive here is implemented with a thin plate chain with a lifespan of 120,000 km, but if the engine is not revved frequently, it can last approximately twice as long without replacement. A stretched chain usually does not break, but skips one tooth and often bends valves. Other shortcomings reported by owners include oil or coolant leaks due to weak gaskets, as well as a very limited lifespan of the water pump, generator, and other auxiliary equipment.
