Engine Overview and Common Failures

The dry weight of the G4LD engine is 92 kg (without additional equipment). The G4LD engine number is located at the front, where it meets the gearbox. Due to the presence of piston cooling nozzles and the absence of serious issues with scuffing, the main cause of excessive oil consumption is the elliptical shape of the cylinders. The aluminum block with thin cast iron liners and an open cooling jacket has low rigidity, and the presence of a turbocharger only accelerates the deformation processes. The timing chain has a low lifespan. In turbocharged engines of the Korean manufacturer, a reliable roller-chain is used, but it has a tendency to stretch by 100,000 km if the engine is frequently revved to the limit. It is fortunate that chain replacements are carried out by every service center and are quite inexpensive. Like any direct injection engine, this one suffers from carbon deposits on the intake valves. Oil and coolant leaks due to weak gaskets are also not uncommon.
