Engine Overview and Common Failures

The weight of the G4FG engine is 98.7 kg. The engine number G4FG is located at the front, at the junction with the gearbox. The most well-known issue with engines of this family is cylinder scoring. A small catalytic collector for quick heating is located close to the engine, and in case of catalyst destruction, its particles often enter the combustion chambers. The cylinder block is made of aluminum with an open cooling jacket and thin liners, which have low rigidity. And with active operation or regular overheating, the cylinders often become elliptical, resulting in increased oil consumption. Engines produced before 2014 had a not very reliable timing chain, which often stretched up to 150,000 km. Then a bush-roller chain was introduced. Among the drawbacks of this engine are noisy injector operation, low lifespan of engine supports, frequent leaks from under the valve cover, and unstable idle speed due to throttle contamination.
