Engine Overview and Common Failures

The main problems of the engine are related to overheating and cracks in the cylinder head, which are not uncommon. In addition, there is a high oil consumption, which leads to carbonization in the intake. The unreliable timing chain and especially its tensioner often last less than 50,000 km. The phaser regulator, vacuum pump, and injection system's fuel pump have a modest lifespan. The water pump and thermostat are also considered weak points of this power unit.
