Engine Overview and Common Failures

These engines have not been produced for long enough to gather good statistics on their breakdowns. So far, most complaints are related to failures of direct injection and carbon deposits on the valves. The weak point of this engine is the thermomodule, which is used instead of a thermostat. The Valvetronic system regularly causes problems, as well as the Vanos phase regulators. Sometimes there is destruction of the support bearing due to axial play in the crankshaft.
