Mini B38a12a Engine

The 1.2-liter turbocharged engine Mini One B38A12A was produced by the company from 2014-2017 and was installed in the basic versions of the third-generation Mini models with F55, F56, and F57 body styles. This is the only engine from the B38 family that was not installed in BMW vehicles. The engines from the B38 series are: B38A15A, B48A20A, and B48A20B.

Engine Overview and Common Failures

The units of this series appeared not long ago and statistics about their breakdowns have not yet been collected. Currently, the main complaints are related to the temperamental nature of direct injection and carbon deposits on the valves. The weak point of the engine is the thermomodule, which replaces the thermostat here. Periodically, issues arise with the Vanos phase regulators or the Valvetronic system. Sometimes, the support bearing is destroyed due to excessive axial clearance on the crankshaft.
