Engine Overview and Common Failures

The weight of the G4FA engine is 99.5 kg. The engine number G4FA is located in front at the junction with the gearbox. In the early years, the engine was equipped with a large exhaust manifold of the "ram horn" type, but from around 2010 it began to be replaced by a very small roller collector. Now, when the catalyst is destroyed, crumbs get into the cylinders and scratch the walls. It is an aluminum unit with an open cooling jacket and thin-walled liners, which are not very rigid. With very active operation or frequent overheating, the cylinders can go elliptical and immediately there is a progressive oil consumption. In the case of experienced drivers, the timing chain works well, usually it is replaced after 200,000 km. However, if the engine is constantly revved to high rpms, the lifespan is reduced by half. Also, due to dirty oil, the hydraulic tensioner often fails and seizes. As for smaller problems: due to weak tensioner, the generator belt often squeaks, the engine supports do not last long, there are regular leaks of oil from under the valve cover, and fluctuating idle speed due to a dirty throttle body or fuel injectors.
