Engine Overview and Common Failures

The weight of the G6DA engine is 215 kg (with attachments). The engine number G6DA is located at the junction of the engine and the gearbox. The main complaint from owners on forums is usually related to oil consumption, and the reason for this is the simple problem of the oil control rings sticking, they are a bit too thin here. Decarbonization usually does not help, most of the time it is necessary to open up the engine. When the lubrication level in the system drops due to excessive oil consumption, the bearings often rotate, and there are descriptions of many such breakdowns on specialized forums. However, even serviced components occasionally get stuck, apparently the bearings here are a bit weak. The timing chain and the phaser regulator do not have a very high service life, sometimes they last less than 150,000 km, and replacement is quite expensive, especially if new phaser regulators also have to be purchased. On engines of the second generation, the timing chains started to last longer, but the hydraulic tensioner can still let you down. Other drawbacks include regular oil leaks from plastic valve covers, throttle sticking due to carbon deposits, and elements of the intake geometry adjustment system breaking. And don't forget about valve clearance adjustment, it is usually required every 60,000 km.
