Hyundai G4er Engine

The 1.5-liter 16-valve Hyundai G4ER engine was produced by the company from 1995 to 2000 and used in the first generation of the Accent model and its various variations, such as Excel or Verna. This power unit is known by a completely different index, G4FK, in many sources. The Alpha series also includes: G4EA, G4EB, G4EC, G4ED, G4EE, G4EH, and G4EK.

Engine Overview and Common Failures

The dry weight of the G4ER engine is 114.3 kg. The G4ER engine number is located in the front, at the junction of the block and the cylinder head. Overall, the unit is reliable, but it is often affected by assembly quality and some components. Some common complaints include fluctuating RPM due to throttle or EGR valve contamination. The timing belt is replaced every 60,000 km, while the chain between the camshafts is replaced every 120,000 km. After reaching 100,000 km, the hydraulic lifters wear out and start to make loud noises. Around 200,000 km, the oil seals harden and an oil consumption issue may arise.
