Engine Overview and Common Failures

The engine weight of 1AD-FTV according to the catalog is 180 kg. The engine number 1AD-FTV is located at the junction of the block and the gearbox. The most well-known problem with these diesel engines is the regular blowing of the cylinder head gasket. These engines also suffer from erosion of mating surfaces, which exacerbates the situation. Oil consumption is the second most common complaint on the forums. There have even been a number of recall campaigns to replace pistons, but the oil consumption issue remains. It is advisable to replace the washers under the injectors every 60,000 km or they will burn out, and only an experienced specialist will be able to remove the clogged injectors without breaking them. The following problems are typical for almost any modern diesel: rapid EGR valve fouling, regeneration failures and DPF failure, turbine geometry sticking, and low lifespan of piezo injectors introduced in 2009.
