Engine Overview and Common Failures
The dry weight of the G6BA engine is 148 kg, with attachments it is 185 kg. The engine number G6BA is located at the junction of the engine and the gearbox. The intake flaps are installed in the intake manifold. This is a very reliable power unit with a huge resource, but it has a weak point: the swirl flaps of the variable geometry system are installed in the intake manifold, and the bolts of these flaps have a tendency to unscrew and fall straight into the combustion chamber of the engine. In this engine, there is a thick timing belt that lasts longer than the recommended 60,000 km, but it is often damaged by an unreliable hydraulic tensioner or oil leakage. When the belt jumps, the engine usually simply does not start, and when it breaks, it bends the valves. Oil consumption is another common complaint from owners of vehicles with this engine. A small oil consumption appears closer to 200,000 km and significantly increases with mileage. Most often, this is caused by stuck oil control valve seals or worn rings. Other weaknesses of the engine include a relatively short lifespan of the attachments, high-voltage wires, crankshaft pulley, hydraulic compensators, and all sensors. Additionally, the engine's RPM constantly fluctuates due to throttle body, MAF sensor, or fuel injector contamination.
