Engine Overview and Common Failures

The weight of the PNBA engine is 91 kg (without attachments). The Ford PNBA engine number is located at the front, where it meets the gearbox. This engine is very weak for the Mondeo and is often revved, which affects its lifespan. Components of the ignition system quickly fail due to poor fuel quality. It is recommended to regularly check the condition of the timing belt, as its breakage can cause valve damage. Valve cover and rear crankshaft seal are common sources of lubricant leaks. Weak points also include camshaft phasers, fuel pump, and almost all attachments.
