Engine Overview and Common Failures

The weight of the GY-DE engine according to the catalog is 170 kg. The engine number GY-DE is located at the junction of the block with the oil pan. The engine is known for its reliability and high durability, but it has a considerable fuel consumption. Instead of a fuel filter, there is a regular mesh in the tank, which quickly gets clogged. If the mesh is clogged, the fuel pump and injectors quickly fail. The water pump has a relatively short service life and its replacement is difficult due to its location. Other issues are related to oil leaks, especially from under the upper cylinder head cover.
