Engine Overview and Common Failures

The weight of the 22R-E engine according to the catalog is 155 kg. The engine number 22R-E is located on the cylinder block. Malfunctions in the operation of the lobe-type variable valve timing system lead to a sharp increase in fuel consumption. The outdated ignition system, especially the distributor, causes many problems. The timing chain may stretch and start making loud noises even before reaching 150,000 km of mileage. However, this is a very reliable engine with a huge lifespan of up to half a million kilometers. Valve adjustment is required every 100,000 km, there are no hydraulic compensators here.
