Engine Overview and Common Failures

The weight of the 3S-GE engine according to the catalog is 155 kg. The engine number 3S-GE is located at the junction of the block and the gearbox. Oil consumption can increase up to 1 liter per 1000 km, especially around 200,000 km mileage. The timing belt in this engine has a considerable strength reserve, but it is not recommended to test it. Beams-type versions of this engine do not have piston recesses and valve bending with belt breakage. Engine modifications equipped with an EGR valve often suffer from fluctuating RPMs as the valve quickly becomes clogged with carbon deposits and begins to stick. For the same reason, make sure to keep the fuel injectors and throttle valve clean. This engine is generally noisy and prone to vibrations, which is considered normal. However, periodically check the condition of the engine mounts as they are not very reliable. Valves can also make noise and may require adjustment, as there are no hydraulic compensators. Like any aging power unit, there are various minor problems: components of the ignition system and some sensors are more prone to failure.
