Engine Overview and Common Failures

The weight of the SHDA engine according to the catalog is 105 kg. The Ford SHDA engine number is located at the front, at the junction with the gearbox. Duratec series engines are reliable, but they prefer good fuel and it is better to use AI-95. Poor fuel can damage spark plugs, sometimes they last less than 10,000 km. For the same reason, the expensive fuel pump can quickly fail. In the European version of Duratec engines, when the timing belt breaks, the valves are always bent. Hydraulic compensators are not provided, so the valves need to be adjusted periodically.
