Engine Overview and Common Failures

The main problem of all units in this series is high oil consumption. The reason for the oil loss is due to the wear caused by the catalyst crumbs entering the cylinders. Additionally, the chain here is also rattling, as there are no check valves in the cylinder head oil channels. Another culprit of timing chain noise is the significant wear of hydraulic tensioners. Other weak points of the engine include the water pump, fuel injection pump, and often burnt-out muffler corrugations.
