Engine Overview and Common Failures

The most well-known problem of such engines is the formation of scoring in the cylinders. The main cause of scoring is often a malfunctioning fuel injector. In second place are the stretching of timing chains and the failure of their tensioners. Phase regulators and ignition coils have relatively limited lifespan. Many owners have encountered excessive oil consumption or carbon deposits on the intake valves.
