Engine Overview and Common Failures
The weight of the VQ25HR engine according to the catalog is 185 kg. The engine number is located at the junction of the block and the gearbox.
The most problematic part of this engine is the catalyst, which deteriorates due to poor fuel quality. Its particles then enter the cylinders, causing scratches. All of this leads to high oil consumption, which increases over time.
Until 2012, paper gaskets were used for the oil channels located under the front cover of these engines. They often get squeezed out before reaching 100-150 thousand km. As a result, the lubrication pressure decreases, which often results in bearing failure.
During particularly aggressive driving, air filters can be crushed (there are two of them), and there is also an increased risk of blowing the cylinder head gasket and oil entering the coolant. Due to the same reason, valve covers become coked up and the engine starts to stall. Since hydraulic lifters are not provided, the valves here need to be adjusted.
