Engine Overview and Common Failures

The weight of the G8BB engine according to the catalog is 214 kg. The G8BB engine number is located at the back, at the junction with the gearbox. It is a reliable unit, but its problem lies in the rarity and consequently the price of spare parts. In freezing temperatures, the performance of the oil pump can significantly decrease, causing the tensioner not to tighten the chains properly, resulting in chain skipping during cold starts. Another weak point is considered to be the catalysts, as they do not tolerate substandard fuel. After 300,000 km, it is often necessary to replace the timing chain, usually along with the phase regulators.
