Engine Overview and Common Failures

The weight of the K7M engine according to the catalog is 127 kg. The engine number K7M is located at the junction of the block and the gearbox. Cracks in the ignition coil. The most well-known problem of this engine is the cracking of the ignition coil. Moisture enters the cracks, which leads to engine wear and similar problems. Around 2012, a new coil appeared that is free from this drawback. Timing belt breakage. The timing drive of this power unit is belt-driven with a replacement interval of 60,000 km, but the belt itself can last much longer. Usually, it breaks due to pump wedging or tensioner roller, and in case of breakage, the valves are bent in almost 100% of cases. Fluctuating idle speed. Quite often, the engine speed fluctuates at idle, and the usual cause of this is contamination of the idle control valve. Clogged injectors or air suction through cracks or loose seals in the intake manifold can also be culprits. Oil and coolant leaks. Engines of this series tend to have oil and coolant leaks, with several weak spots: lubrication mostly seeps through the front crankshaft seal or from the heat exchanger. Cracking thermostat housing often causes coolant leaks here. Minor malfunctions. The drawbacks of this engine also include a low lifespan of the crankshaft position sensor and the absence of hydraulic compensators, so you will have to adjust the valve clearances.
