Engine Overview and Common Failures

The weight of the J8S engine according to the catalog is 171 kg. The engine number J8S is located at the junction of the block and the cylinder head. Cracks in the cylinder head are a common issue. This diesel engine is highly susceptible to overheating, which often leads to cracks in the cylinder head. Finding a replacement for it is not easy. Oil consumption is high, with constant lubricant leaks, especially from the hose that goes to the oil filter. In turbocharged versions, the turbo often starts leaking oil around 100,000 km. The timing belt has a relatively short lifespan and is frequently exposed to oil, resulting in frequent breakage, usually damaging the rocker arms and their shaft. The fuel system relies on a reliable mechanical injection pump, and often only the injectors need to be repaired.
