Engine Overview and Common Failures

The weight of the K4M engine according to the catalog is 133 kg. The engine number K4M is located at the junction of the block and the gearbox. The phase regulator crack In the modifications of this engine with a phase regulator, it is exactly this component that is the weak link. Sometimes it starts to crack as early as 60,000 km mileage, and a new one is quite expensive. Timing belt break According to the regulations, the timing belt is changed every 60,000 km, but in reality it lasts longer. Most often it breaks due to pump seizing or tensioner roller failure. Valves are bent in this case. Fluctuating RPM Owners of cars with this engine regularly encounter fluctuating RPMs. The cause may be contamination of the idle air control valve, throttle body, or injectors. Air leakage through cracks in the intake manifold is also often the culprit. Oil and coolant leaks All power units in this lineup are prone to oil or coolant leaks. The main weak points are the valve cover, front crankshaft seal, and oil separator. Coolant mainly seeps through cracks in the thermostat housing. Minor breakdowns This power unit also does not have the highest resource for its mounts, crankshaft damper pulley, ignition coils, and crankshaft position sensor.
