Engine Overview and Common Failures

All the main problems of this engine are related to the K/KE-Jetronic injection system. The reason for the unstable operation of the engine is usually due to air leaks or contamination of the fuel mixture. The fuel pump is very sensitive to dirt and long drives with low fuel levels in the tank. Additionally, many engine failures are caused by failures of ignition system components. After 200,000 km, tappets often make knocking sounds and require cleaning or replacement of hydraulic lifters.
