Engine Overview and Common Failures

The most common problems for owners are malfunctions in the KE-III-Jetronic system. The reason for fluctuating engine revs is usually due to contamination of the fuel mixture or an air leak. Clogged injectors and a faulty fuel pump are often to blame for unstable operation. Additionally, some components of the ignition system have a low reliability. Around 200,000 km, the hydraulic valve lifters often fail and start making noise.
