Engine Overview and Common Failures

The weight of the M272 engine according to the catalog is 177 kg. The engine number M272 is located at the junction of the block and the gearbox. The weakest point of this power unit is its camshaft drive mechanism. Due to rapid wear of the balancer shaft sprockets, the entire timing mechanism becomes unserviceable. Another known problem is the sticking of the intake manifold flaps. Plastic cylinder head plugs leak oil at 50-70 thousand km. Engine overheating leads to detonation and destruction of the aluminum-silicon coating in the cylinders.
