Engine Overview and Common Failures

The weight of the H5Ft engine according to the catalog is 109 kg. The engine number H5Ft is located at the junction with the gearbox. Firmware issues were a common problem in the first year of production, including fluctuating RPMs, difficult starting in cold weather, sudden turbine shutdown during uphill climbs, and other engine glitches. The manufacturer released firmware updates one after another until everything finally normalized. Excessive oil consumption is the second most common complaint among Renault owners with this engine. It often appears from the first few kilometers and sometimes reaches 1 liter per 1000 km. The cause of this is a faulty piston assembly with defective oil control rings. The timing chain and phase regulation system have a relatively short lifespan in the engine. With frequent high RPM usage, the chain can stretch as early as 100,000 km. At the same mileage, the phase regulators may also crack, and their replacement can be quite expensive. In many units with direct fuel injection, intake valves become clogged with carbon deposits, but in this case, it manifests particularly strongly: the engine starts to stall or even shut off completely. There are often oil leaks in the engine, and the main culprits are usually the crankshaft seals. The sealing ring of the crankcase ventilation pipe also frequently breaks here.
