Engine Overview and Common Failures

The weight of the engine M16A in assembly is 107 kg. The engine number M16A is located at the junction with the gearbox. Oil consumption: This is a reliable and durable motor, but after 200,000 km, oil consumption is often encountered. The causes can be not only hardened oil control caps and stuck rings, but also increased wear of valve seats and guides. Its cylinder head is weak. Cylinder head gasket failure: The aluminum unit is very sensitive to overheating and often blows the cylinder head gasket. The situation can worsen after 200,000 km due to the sagging of cast iron liners in the block. Fluctuating idle speed: Among the most common minor issues are fluctuating engine idle speeds. If cleaning the throttle body does not help, check the EGR valve, it may be clogged. Electrical failures: Low reliability is characteristic of sensors, especially crankshaft-camshaft position sensors and ignition coils, both dual ones before 2006 and individual ones after 2006. Other disadvantages: Leaks are often found, usually through the oil pressure sensor. The catalyst doesn't last long, and neither do the engine mounts. Also, do not forget about adjusting the valves every 30,000 km.
