Engine Overview and Common Failures

The weight of the M13A engine assembly is 102 kg. The engine number M13A is located at the junction with the gearbox. Oil consumption is the main problem of the engine due to the wear of the oil rings and caps. But if their replacement does not help, then check the condition of the valve seats and guides. Cylinder head gasket failure is a common issue for this aluminum engine, as it is prone to overheating and the gasket regularly blows out. The situation usually worsens around 200,000 km of mileage due to slight cylinder wall wear. Owners of these engines often experience unstable idling. Most commonly, this is caused by simple throttle body contamination, occasionally by EGR valves. Electrical failures are also not uncommon, with some sensors, especially the crankshaft or camshaft position sensors, having low reliability. Ignition coils also have a relatively short lifespan and are sometimes replaced along with spark plugs. Other weaknesses of this power unit include engine mounts, a short-lived catalytic converter, and an oil pressure sensor that often leaks. And don't forget about valve adjustment.
