Engine Overview and Common Failures
The weight of the H20A engine as a whole is 160 kg. The engine number H20A is located at the junction of the block and the oil pan. The timing mechanism consists of three chains and three hydraulic tensioners, which are very demanding in terms of oil quality and especially the timing of its replacement. Saving often leads to the tensioner jamming, chain skipping, and engine failure. Oil consumption is quickly clogged due to the oil catcher labyrinth on the valve covers, which is part of the crankcase ventilation system. This is the main cause of oil consumption. Knocking of the hydraulic compensators is an excellent indicator of strong lubricant contamination. Regular oil leaks are a real disaster here. The weak points include the front engine cover, front and rear crankshaft seals, and sealing rings of the oil channel at the junction of the block with the crankcase and the crankcase with the oil pan. Other drawbacks often include failures of the mass air flow and throttle position sensors, as well as rapid clogging of the EGR valve or cracking of its supply pipe.
