Engine Overview and Common Failures

The weight of the J20A engine assembly is 125 kg. The engine number J20A is located at the junction of the block and the gearbox. Oil consumption: Most often, owners of such engines complain about oil consumption on specialized forums. The usual reason is clogged oil rings, but if their replacement does not help, it means that it is time to overhaul the engine with cylinder liner reaming. Bearing rotation: This engine is quite demanding in terms of oil quality and especially its replacement schedule, and owners of older vehicles often skimp on fuel-lubricating materials, which often leads to bearing rotation of the crankshaft and subsequent seizing of your unit. Low chain lifespan: In this engine, the timing chain consists of three thin chains with a limited service life, sometimes they stretch and require replacement before reaching 100-120 thousand kilometers of mileage. However, due to oil saving, the chain tensioners can fail prematurely. Other drawbacks: Like any aluminum engine, it is very sensitive to overheating and often leads to cylinder head gasket failure. The intake manifold also quickly gets clogged, and crankshaft seals constantly leak. And don't forget to check the condition of the spark plugs and valve clearances every 30,000 km of mileage.
